About 5 years ago, I found myself, a Unix and Windows technologist, in a position of a systems architect for a large Java project on the mainframe platform. This set of pages is a collection of thoughts, definitions, opinions, and experience reports from my encounter with this old yet new environment. |
| The first thing I realized when I started working with the mainframe is the lack of easily accessible technical information about the platform that could be used by by an architect to understand what it is. Whereas it is really easy to find a million books on Unix or Windows or OS/2, there are almost no books that describe zOS. There are many books showing explaining Unix concepts to mainframers, but no books explaining mainframe concepts to Unix people. As a service to others in this situation, here are some resources to get started. | |
